Praia de Joao Fernandinho beach in Buzios is one of two twin beaches. The other one is the bigger Joao Fernandes beach. This concept is rather important because, together, Praia de Joao Fernandinho and Joao Fernandes beach form a "W" on the coast near the tip of the Buzios peninsula. On each cove of the "W" are the Praia de Joao Fernandinho and Praia de Joao Fernandes. The middle spike of the "W" is actually a cliff with the Colonna hotel sitting right on top of it. The twin coves of Joao Fernandinho beach and Joao Fernandes beach in Buzios are also favorite stops of yachts, catamaran and schooner tours.

Access to this prime location can be achieved by land vehicle on the main road up to the middle cliff where you will have to use the stairs going down to Praia de Joao Fernandinho. Water taxis and schooner tours are the favored alternative to land transport as using them is a more efficient way of visiting the many Buzios beaches.

According to local legends, a Portuguese captain named Joao Fernandes had a last stand battle on the beach fighting against pirates and Indians.
