Praia de Azedinha! If there is one beach you have to see, "IT" is Azedinha beach.

Just like a cupped hand around a coffee cup, this piece of land jutting out from the Buzios peninsula houses Praia de Azedinha and Praia de Azeda to the left. As the cliffs turn back inland to the right, you come into Joao Fernandes and Joao Fernandinho beach, both of which form another cove. These four beaches make the tip of the Buzios peninsula. However, for this article, we will discuss Praia de Azedinha or Azedinha beach.

Getting to Praia de Azedinha by land transport is virtually impossible as only a small paved walkway serves as the only infrastructure to access Azedinha beach. This walkway begins at Praia dos Ossos. After walking some few minutes, a secondary path leading to Praia de Azeda will veer away from the main path. To get to Praia de Azedinha, keep walking the main path until you begin to descend the mountains straight onto Azedinha beach.

The easier but costlier way to get to Praia de Azedinha is by water taxi or schooner. You can find any number of these at all Buzios beaches. Water transportation doesn't really cost that much and can afford you the view of this part of Buzios from the water. Of course, approaching the beach through the walkway is a thrill in itself as you travel on top of a ridge and watch the breathtaking waters, cliffs and beaches below as they come into view.

I forgot to tell you, there are no shops or facilities on Azedinha beach. The closest accessible beach with facilities is Praia dos Ossos. Therefore, if you plan to stay here the whole or half of the day, you might want to bring along your quota of twinkies and chips. There are some trees and rock formations that can provide shade. Since the path is narrow, it will be awkward to carry a beach umbrella all the way to Praia de Azedinha. Just to be sure, imbibe a dose of immodium.

Praia de Azedinha is a small curved beach that is seemingly being hugged protectively by a mountain. Splendid rock formations are viewable at Azedinha beach. As a matter of fact, one rock out-cropping divides the sandy beach from a smooth rock bottom beach. The outcropping continues on into the water. At some point, locals decided to add rock barriers to from a mini pool. This mini pool with its rocky bottom is considerably warmer than ocean waters.

The waters of Praia de Azedinha are warm and calm which makes it the primary choice for families on vacation. The water stays clear for ten feet from the beach. You will find people doing some snorkelling around to see the sparse coral formations surrounding Azedinha beach.

Praia de Azedinha is a must see. If you plan to go there, try to avoid weekends and holidays as people really like to visit Praia de Azedinha.
