Praia Ferradura beach in Buzios is a rather large enclosed coved. Imagine the letter C and you will get an idea of Praia Ferradura's very nice shape. In fact, this is exactly the shape of Praia Ferradura if viewed from above. Be that as it may, ferradura translated means horse shoe. Of course, I do not think so; and I believe it to be an injustice to the letter C. Anyway, most, or the whole of the letter C that is Praia Ferradura, is one long stretch of sandy beach. It's only at the ends where the land starts to rise and forms into cliffs that serve as the inlet of the cove. On the whole, the surrounding areas are flatlands with Ferradura beach serving as it's basin of water. The land seems to be embracing the water. If you want to see Praia Ferradura in all its wonder, look at it from above.
Naturally, a location such as Praia Ferradura is one of the places to be; which is why most of the wealthy inhabitants of Buzios have their mansions and villas around Praia Ferradura. Because the inlet restricts the flow of open sea water into the cove, the waves are rather gentle. This makes Ferradura beach a nice place to swim and do some kayaking. There are also some coral formations near the inlet and cliff areas. Snorkelling or diving is a common pass time here at Ferradura beach.
Food and drinks are available at the Ferradura beach kiosks. There are also stores and shops that rent out water sports equipment. Umbrellas are also plentiful on the beach of Ferradura. However, there are some homes that front Praia Ferradura itself so there will be no beach umbrellas on these parts of Ferradura beach. Also, the beach of Ferradura has an almost private status because of the Ferradura beach front houses. In spite of this status, Praia Ferradura remains a free beach. During the Christmas season, Praia Ferradura is likely to be crowded all the way through the Rio Carnival in February. If you want some peace, avoid the beach of Ferradura during these times. Usually, the beach of Ferradura is mostly quiet and peaceful. If you do choose to go to Ferradura beach in Buzios during off months to avoid the crowds, you might miss out on the whales. Whales usually pass by the waters of Praia Ferradura during the months of September and all the way through December.
Praia Ferradura beach in Buzios is located to the side of the centre of the Buzios peninsula. Over land to the left of Ferradura beach is Foca or Seal beach;which is another beautiful beach in Buzios. Over land again to the right is Praia Ferradurinha or little sister beach to Praia Ferradura. This can be misleading though because Ferradurinha beach is far from the beach of Ferradura. Praia Ferradura and Praia Ferradurinha are separated by hills, cliffs and forests. It would be easier to get to Ferradurinha beach from Praia Ferradura by taking the main road. In the same way, access to Foca beach from Praia Ferradura beach in Buzios is also best by main road or water taxi.
